Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

A handsome vintage edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, illustrated by celebrated Golden Age illustrator Edmund Dulac.

Published by Garden City Publishing Company, this undated American edition is associated with the publisher's 1930 edition and is conservatively dated to the 1930s. The book contains all eight full-page color illustrations called for in this edition, including Striking the Jolly Roger, Pew's Death, The Apple Barrel, Boarding the Hispaniola, and The Black Spot Again.

Dulac's illustrations are the highlight of the volume. The plates remain remarkably attractive, with soft but rich colors and the distinctive atmospheric quality for which his work is known. Decorative green illustrated endpapers complement the original green cloth binding.

The front board is lettered and decorated in dark green, with matching lettering to the spine.

Condition: Good+ vintage condition. Original green cloth shows age and use, including noticeable fading to the spine, rubbing and wear at the corners and spine ends, scattered marks and light soiling, and a small area of fraying along the fore edge of the front board. The interior is generally quite clean and attractive. All eight color illustrations are present and remain in very good condition. Some leaves show minor edge wear and small closed tears or chips along the lower margins. Previous owner's handwritten notation, "8 Color Prints," appears on the front endpaper. No dust jacket.
