Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
A handsome 1944 edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, illustrated by celebrated American artist N. C. Wyeth. Originally published with Wyeth's illustrations by Scribner's in 1911, Treasure Island was the first of the great Scribner Illustrated Classics associated with the artist and remains one of his best-known illustrated books.
This vintage edition features a striking color pictorial label mounted to the black cloth front board, illustrated endpapers, decorative title page and the wonderful adventure illustrations for which Wyeth became famous.
Complete with all nine full-page color plates and the illustrated treasure map.
The book retains its peach-colored top edge. The illustrated endpapers are particularly attractive, including a previous owner's gift inscription dated August 1945, giving the copy a bit of period character.
Condition: Good+ vintage condition. Binding remains solid, with general age-related rubbing and wear to the black cloth. The front pictorial label remains colorful and attractive. Gilt lettering on the spine is substantially faded. Scattered foxing, spotting and age toning are present internally, with some additional wear and soiling to the page edges. Previous owner's 1945 gift inscription to the front endpaper. No dust jacket. All nine color plates and the map are present.
