A wonderfully illustrated vintage edition of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic pirate adventure, Treasure Island, published by Grosset & Dunlap as part of its popular Illustrated Junior Library.

This is the 1974 printing of an edition originally prepared for the series in 1947, with illustrations by noted illustrator Norman Price and book design by Oscar Ogg. Price’s dramatic artwork is particularly well suited to Stevenson’s story, with striking full-page color illustrations accompanied by black-and-white illustrations throughout.

The book itself is equally attractive beneath the jacket, bound in cream and blue cloth with a repeating nautical design of treasure chests, ropes, pulleys, and pistols. Color-illustrated endpapers complete the presentation.

Most importantly, this copy retains its original pictorial dust jacket, featuring Norman Price artwork and the distinctive mid-century Illustrated Junior Library design.

Condition

Very Good hardcover in a Good+ original dust jacket.

The book is clean and attractive with bright decorated cloth boards, a sound binding, clean pages, and vivid illustrations. The cloth shows only minor age and handling wear.

The original dust jacket remains complete and displays very well, with age-related rubbing and edge wear, including small chips and short tears around the spine ends and corners. There is additional rubbing/scuffing to the front panel. Please review the photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.

An appealing vintage edition of one of literature’s great adventure stories and an excellent choice for a collector of illustrated classics, Robert Louis Stevenson, or decorative vintage books.
