Robert Louis StevensonIllustrated by Milo WinterRand McNally & Company, Chicago, 1915

An attractive early illustrated edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, published by Rand McNally in 1915 and illustrated by noted American illustrator Milo Winter.

This edition features Winter's dramatic color illustrations along with striking illustrated endpapers depicting a map of Treasure Island and a sailing ship at sea. The original olive-green cloth binding is decorated with gilt lettering and a large pictorial cover illustration, giving the book considerable display appeal.

Published during the early period of Rand McNally's illustrated classics, this is the first Rand McNally edition illustrated by Milo Winter / first edition thus. Winter's illustrations have become closely associated with early 20th-century editions of classic adventure literature.

This copy retains 13 of the 14 called-for Milo Winter illustrations. The plate called for at page 34 is absent.

Condition: Good antique condition. Original pictorial cloth shows rubbing, edge wear and fraying, particularly at the spine ends and corners. The pictorial cover has surface rubbing and wear while the gilt lettering remains attractive. Pages show expected age toning with scattered spotting and foxing. Illustrated endpapers remain present and attractive. Thirteen of the fourteen Milo Winter illustrations are present; the plate at page 34 is missing. Please review photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
