A wonderfully illustrated vintage edition of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1930 and featuring the distinctive artwork of Lyle Justis.

Bound in textured green cloth with an embossed radiating design and gilt lettering to the front board, this edition is especially notable for its elaborate illustrated map endpapers and numerous illustrations incorporated throughout the text. Justis’s drawings depict pirates, ships, weapons, coins, and scenes from Stevenson’s classic adventure, with many accented in muted color.

The copyright page states “Copyright 1930 by Carl J. H. Anderson / Owned by Illustrated Editions Company, Inc.” The illustrations originated with the 1930 illustrated edition produced by Anderson, with this copy issued by Grosset & Dunlap.

A particularly charming feature is the original Herr’s Book Store, Lancaster, Pennsylvania bookseller label still affixed to the illustrated front endpaper—a small surviving piece of the book’s early bookselling history.

The volume contains 228 numbered pages and is followed by the supplementary section “How Robert Louis Stevenson Wrote ‘Treasure Island.’”

Condition: Very Good. The interior is notably clean and attractive, with illustrations remaining bright and well preserved. The green cloth shows considerable sunning and fading along the spine, with lighter fading and general wear to the boards and extremities. Front gilt remains attractive. Binding appears sound.
