The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien | 1977 First American Edition | Houghton Mifflin | Vintage Tolkien Hardcover with Map

A vintage 1977 First American Edition of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, edited and published posthumously by his son, Christopher Tolkien.

One of the foundational works of Tolkien’s legendarium, The Silmarillion tells the ancient history and mythology of Middle-earth, including the creation of the world, the rise of Morgoth, the Silmarils, and the events of the First Age that form the distant background to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

This Houghton Mifflin edition retains its original illustrated dust jacket and the large fold-out map at the rear, which is present and intact.

Condition: Vintage condition with a clean, complete interior and sound binding. The dust jacket shows age-related wear, including rubbing, edge wear, small tears and chipping, particularly around the spine ends and upper edges. The upper corner of the dust-jacket flap has been clipped, removing the original price. Please review the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

A very appealing early American Tolkien hardcover and an excellent addition to a Middle-earth, fantasy literature, or J.R.R. Tolkien collection.
