An attractive first-year copy of one of C. S. Lewis's most enduring works, published only ten months after the first impression. This copy retains its original publisher's dust jacket, correctly marked “Ninth Edition” on the front flap with the original 5s. net price intact.

Originally published in February 1942, The Screwtape Letters was an immediate success and went through nine impressions before the end of that year. Written as a series of letters from the senior demon Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood, it remains one of Lewis's most celebrated works of Christian satire and moral philosophy.

The book itself is in very good overall condition, with a clean interior and only light age-related spotting. The scarce original wartime dust jacket shows considerable wear, including chipping, tears, edge losses and general age-related soiling, but remains substantially intact and is now protected in a clear archival cover.
