The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, Grosset & Dunlap, c. 1950s
A vintage Grosset & Dunlap edition of John Bunyan’s enduring Christian allegory, The Pilgrim’s Progress From This World to That Which Is to Come, presented in its original illustrated dust jacket.
First published in the 17th century, The Pilgrim’s Progress follows Christian on his symbolic journey from the City of Destruction toward the Celestial City, encountering temptation, hardship, doubt, and perseverance along the way. It remains one of the most influential works of English religious literature.
This Grosset & Dunlap edition is undated. Based on the publisher information and characteristics of the surviving dust jacket, including the "New York 10, N.Y." postal designation, we date this copy conservatively to circa the 1950s.
The hardcover itself is in very good vintage condition, with a clean and attractive interior showing some expected age-related toning and occasional spotting. The original pictorial dust jacket is substantially complete but well worn, with chips, tears, creasing, rubbing, soiling, and losses along the edges and spine ends, as shown in the photographs. Despite the wear, the jacket retains its striking front illustration and adds considerable character to the book.
A handsome vintage reading and display copy of Bunyan’s classic, particularly appealing for its surviving period dust jacket.
