A beautiful 1932 American edition of Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám, rendered into English verse by Edward FitzGerald and illustrated by the celebrated Golden Age artist Edmund Dulac.

The great attraction of this edition is its suite of 12 full page color illustrations by Dulac, all of which are present in this copy. Richly colored and atmospheric, the illustrations draw on the exotic architecture, gardens, costumes and dreamlike imagery for which Dulac became famous.

The plates remain remarkably attractive and are unquestionably the highlight of the book.

Bound in golden ochre cloth with distinctive black lettering and an architectural device to the front board. The same stylized typography continues along the spine, giving the book considerable decorative appeal even without its original dust jacket.

The book shows normal signs of its more than ninety years of age, including toning and scattered foxing to the pages and margins, with some areas more noticeable than others. The cloth shows light general wear, rubbing and age related discoloration. The 12 Dulac color plates remain complete and particularly attractive, with strong color and wonderful detail.

A lovely example of one of the most enduringly popular illustrated interpretations of FitzGerald's Rubáiyát, and an appealing book for collectors of Edmund Dulac, Golden Age illustration, illustrated classics and decorative vintage books.
