Mont Saint Michel
Mont-Saint-Michel and Chartres — Henry Adams
Franklin Library Limited Edition, 1978 | Full Leather | Illustrated
A beautifully produced Franklin Library edition of Henry Adams’s celebrated Mont-Saint-Michel and Chartres, first published privately in 1904 and regarded as one of the great American studies of medieval architecture, art, and culture.
Published by The Franklin Library in 1978 as a limited edition and illustrated by Gonzalo Fonseca, this handsome volume is bound in rich burgundy leather with elaborate gilt decoration to the boards and spine, raised spine bands, gilt page edges, decorative endpapers, and a bound-in ribbon marker. Illustrations and architectural material complement Adams’s exploration of the great medieval monuments of Mont-Saint-Michel and Chartres.
This copy is in excellent collectible condition, with exceptionally bright gilt and a clean, attractive binding showing very little evidence of handling.
