Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina

A beautifully designed Heritage Press edition of Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, featuring the distinctive lithographic illustrations of acclaimed British artist Barnett Freedman.

Translated by Constance Garnett, with the text edited and revised by Gustavus Spett and the translation revised by Bernard Guilbert Guerney, this substantial single volume edition was produced by The Heritage Press of New York. The special contents are copyright 1952 by The George Macy Companies.

Freedman’s artwork is the highlight of the edition. His expressive lithographic illustrations use a restrained palette of salmon, brown, black and cream, appearing throughout the book as well as across the striking illustrated boards and endpapers. The result is one of the more visually distinctive Heritage Press treatments of a major literary classic.

This copy retains its original Heritage Press slipcase as well as the accompanying Heritage Club Sandglass, Number VIII:16, an especially nice feature for the collector who values a complete Heritage Press presentation.
