An early and highly collectible Beatrix Potter title in its original large-format pictorial binding, published by Frederick Warne in 1909.

Ginger & Pickles tells the wonderfully wry story of Ginger the cat and Pickles the terrier, whose village shop is enormously popular—largely because they extend unlimited credit to their customers. Potter's characteristic humor and observations of village life are accompanied by some of her most charming illustrations

The book is complete with all ten color illustrations, including the color frontispiece and nine additional color plates, as well as numerous illustrations within the text and the illustrated endpapers.

An early gift inscription on the preliminary leaf reads, "Margaret with love from Mother. Xmas 1912," providing a pleasing piece of period provenance only three years after publication.

A complete, unrestored copy showing expected wear from age and use. The original pictorial boards remain attractive, with rubbing and wear to the edges and corners. The spine is worn and chipped at the head, with splitting along the front joint and some fraying; the binding remains holding.

The interior shows scattered foxing, spotting and occasional handling marks, with somewhat heavier wear and soiling to the illustrated endpapers. The color illustrations are particularly attractive, retaining strong, vibrant color, and all ten are present and complete. Early 1912 ownership inscription as noted above.
