Doctor Dolittle’s Return
A wonderfully colorful vintage edition of Hugh Lofting’s Doctor Dolittle’s Return, illustrated by the author and published by J.B. Lippincott Company of Philadelphia and New York. This copy is identified on the copyright page as the Twelfth Printing and dates to approximately 1961.
Originally published in 1933, Doctor Dolittle’s Return continues the adventures of Lofting’s famous physician who can communicate with animals. Lofting both wrote and illustrated the Doctor Dolittle books, and his whimsical black-and-white drawings appear throughout this volume.
This copy retains its original bright yellow illustrated dust jacket, featuring a charming front-panel illustration by Lofting. Surviving jackets are particularly desirable on vintage children’s books, and this one remains colorful and highly displayable despite its age-related wear.
The dust jacket also prominently identifies Lofting as the winner of the Newbery Medal for The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle.
Condition: Very Good book in a Good to Very Good dust jacket. The book is clean and well preserved internally, with bright pages and only minor signs of age. The original dust jacket remains complete and colorful, with rubbing, light soiling, edge and corner wear, small chips and tears, and some spotting/foxing to the rear panel. Please review the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
