An attractive late-Victorian edition of Charles Dickens’ Dombey and Son, published in New York and Chicago by Butler Brothers and illustrated by F. Barnard.

The book is bound in its original brown cloth with an elaborate black-stamped Victorian design incorporating the Butler Brothers “BB” monogram and Dickens Works on the front board. The decorative treatment continues onto the spine, giving the volume wonderful period character.

Although the publisher did not date this edition, a contemporary gift inscription reads “Jeanie W. White from W.W.W., Dec. 25, 1889,” establishing that this copy was published no later than 1889.

Condition: Good+ antique condition. The original cloth remains attractive with strong decoration to the front board. Expected rubbing and edge wear, particularly at the corners and spine ends, with fading to the spine lettering. The interior shows age toning but remains quite presentable, with the illustrations and text clean and distinct. Please see photographs for a detailed representation of condition.
