Washington Irving — Bracebridge HallIllustrated by Randolph CaldecottMacmillan & Co., London, 1882284 pages | Approx. 7.25" × 5"

A beautifully preserved Victorian edition of Washington Irving's Bracebridge Hall, illustrated throughout by celebrated English artist Randolph Caldecott.

Published by Macmillan in 1882, this handsome volume retains its original dark green pictorial cloth with striking gilt decoration to the front board and spine. The page edges are gilt, and Caldecott's illustrations appear throughout the text along with the full-page illustrated plates.

The original binding remains particularly attractive, with strong gilt lettering and decoration that gives the book wonderful shelf and display presence. The interior is generally clean and complete, with all pages and illustrations present.

Condition: Good+ antique condition. The green cloth and gilt decoration remain notably bright and attractive, with expected light wear and some fraying at the spine ends. The interior is generally clean with normal age toning. There is some weakness to the binding around one illustrated section, where several pages have begun to separate from the binding. All pages and illustrations are present. Please see photographs for a detailed representation of condition.

A lovely example of Victorian book design and an appealing addition to a collection of Washington Irving, Randolph Caldecott, illustrated classics, or decorative nineteenth-century books.
