Bibelen
Antique Danish Bible 1886 | Copenhagen Denmark | Embossed Leather Binding | Victorian Scandinavian Holy Bible
A handsome 1886 Danish Bible, published in Copenhagen by the British and Foreign Bible Society and presented in an impressive original embossed leather binding.
Titled Bibelen eller Den Hellige Skrift, this substantial 19th-century Bible contains the Old and New Testaments printed in Danish using the beautiful Gothic-style type characteristic of the period. The dark leather boards feature exceptionally detailed blind-stamped geometric decoration surrounding a central monogram, while “Bibelen” remains prominently lettered in gilt on the spine.
The decorative binding is particularly appealing and gives the book wonderful old-world character. Inside, the typography remains dark and crisp, with attractive title pages and a traditional two-column biblical text.

A genuine 140-year-old volume showing the character and wear expected from generations of use. The leather has rubbing, cracking and wear, particularly along the spine and edges. Interior pages show scattered foxing, occasional staining and some minor tears. The elaborate cover decoration remains remarkably well defined and the book displays beautifully.
